Track saw (plunge saw)

The track saw (or plunge saw) is a portable circular saw mounted on a straight guide rail that runs on anti-splinter strips: the blade starts at zero depth and is progressively plunged into the material, allowing precision cuts without needing to enter from the edge of the workpiece. Unlike the table saw, the track saw brings the machine to the material rather than vice versa—essential for full sheets of 120x240 cm that no bench could accommodate. The rail guarantees perfectly parallel cuts at any length, while the plunge mechanism allows cuts to be started mid-panel without entering from the edge. It is the standard solution in joinery workshops, bespoke furniture making and the cutting of composite or laminated panels where surface quality is critical.
