Engraving — illustrazione di categoria

Engraving processes represent a category focused on the surface modification of a material, with the aim of tracing permanent drawings, text, circuits or micro-geometries without altering the overall structure of the part. This family of processes exploits highly specialized chemical, thermal and physical principles. In the field of electronics and micro-mechanics, chemical etching and PCB photo-etching dominate—a technique that uses photosensitive masks and corrosive baths to selectively remove metal, enabling the creation of printed circuits or planar components with exceptional tolerances and levels of miniaturization. On the high-energy front, laser engraving stands out for its use of a concentrated beam of light that vaporizes or burns the surface layer, offering extremely fast, contactless and richly detailed marking on almost any type of substrate, from wood to metal. Finally, traditional mechanical engraving relies on the physical action of cutting tools or bits (as in pantographs or CNC routers) to carve the material directly; although it requires direct contact, it guarantees a tangible, deep groove that is highly resistant to wear over time. Together, these technologies perfectly blend technical precision, functionality and aesthetics.
